At Home April 28, 1884 Dear Friend Genia, Your most welcome letter received a few days since. How did you enjoy yourself Memorial Day ....hugely I guess. I didn’t get to go out Memorial Day. Mama’s little niece was brought down Friday as a corps and buried Saturday eve. Mr. Wilson was also buried Saturday Morn. And Mrs. Ashcroft is to be buried today. I heard that there were fewer flowers Memorial day than ever known before. I never saw as bare a flower yard in my life. Nothing would afford me more pleasure than to get you some flowers but I would not know where to start to get any for every bodies flowers were killed last winter. Please don’t think that I wouldn’t go to that trouble for it would be not trouble on earth for as I said it would be a pleasure for me to get them. My eyes are a great deal better but I don’t guess will go to school any more before commencement - I don’t want to. They still have to write compositions every Monday. I hope you will excuse this letter but as I feel so bad I must close. With much love to my dear little friend. Write real soon to Your dear Friend (I hope) Gussie (?) H.
