Jan. 4th 1901 Miss E. O. Herndon Palmetto Georgia My Dear Daughter, We have arranged to carry the cotton to Newnan to-morrow. If we get off we will carry your trunk and ship to Palmetto. I am very short of news for it has been so rainy that I have kept very close. No doubt Mr. Jenkins told you that I was in town Wednesday as I sent to you a McIntosh by him. I think it is a very common article but Preston told me to go to Stephen’s Bros. and that was the best they had. You have had a bad week for school therefore I cannot expect it to be much this week. If anything has transpired since you left worth your attention I cannot call it up at present. I have left off my milk for a few days and think my appetite has improved some. We all weighed this afternoon and our weights according to age were as follows 161 – 140 – 144 – 153 Will that do? We have cleaned up our Santa Clause and will get down to substantials now. Write as often as you can and let us know how your school is and how you like. May God bless you and your work. P. A. Herndon Additional Comments: This letter was written by Preston Anderson Horn Herndon to his daughter Ethel Ona Herndon two months before he died.
