Dear Daughter! Your letter of the 1st inst. has been read – was glad to hear from you – Sorry to hear that sister Francis is still sick. We do not object to your remaining over another week but are sorry that you are not here to enjoy Elim’s big meeting. Services have been protracted this week and Bro. Adams is doing the preaching and up to date two have joined by letter and there are 33 awaiting baptism now and we expect several more before the meeting closes. I cannot tell you all who have joined but will mention a few that I remember. Miss Fannie McCoy by letter. Bowen Reese also by letter. Married ladies that have joined are Mrs. Mort Grimes, Ruth Kidd, Orbry Wiggins’s wife, Mrs. Dollie Ware, Mrs. Eunice Martin, and Mrs. Ben Mosely. John Carnes is the only married man – Buel Hubbard, Love Jinkins, Jim Brown, Pierce Chappel, Cliff Grimes and some others. Girls Eva Grimes, Lether Starr, Newel Wiggins, Miss Chappel, Mattie Carnes, Minnie Stephens, Birther Hubbard, and a host of others so to speak. There were 20 joined Tuesday night and 8 last night. There was the largest congregation at church last night that has been there since the general meeting. They brought in benches from the school house and a number of chairs and then all could not be seated. Believe me Bro. Adams has woke them up. He has preached some very fine sermons, in fact if he has preached any other sort I never heard it. His is instructive as well as edifying. Bro. Amis appears much rejoiced over the meeting. You may know that there is something in the meeting because your mother went last night without any persuasion. I am glad she went although she did not get to see 20 join at one time. I don’t think she regrets going it was so good. I am sorry to say that it does not appear to have reached Modena and Preston. Providence permitting some of us will meet you Wednesday. Give love to all, especially sister. Hope you are well. May God bless you. P. A. Herndon P.S. Wish you could be here Sunday to see the baptizing – it will be the largest I ever saw if I live to see it.
