BOYD enlisted as a private in Company A, 56th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry on August 06, 1863, in Atlanta, Georgia. The 56th consolidated with several other regiments to form the new 39th Georgia Regiment; and WILLIAM BOYD was placed in Company F, 39th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. He was present at the surrender on April 26, 1865, at Greensboro, North Carolina. Addition information: WILLIAM L. E. BOYD was born on June 02, 1845, in Coweta County, Georgia; and died in Coweta County on February 24, 1891. He married Selina Elizabeth Huddleston in Meriwether County, Georgia, on February 28, 1873. WILLIAM L. E. BOYD's widow, Elizabeth Boyd, applied for a Confederate widow's pension on the 17th of August, 1919, in Ware County, Georgia. She was at that time living in Waycross, Georgia, with her daughter Willie Lee Boyd Parker.
