Perdue Ordinary of said County, do certify that I know Mrs. Ann Herndon the applicant for pension. She is the person she represents herself to be and she is a bona fide continuing resident citizen of said County and was on the 4th November 1908; that, I also know W. L. Stallings, J. L. Brown, G. O. Scroggin the witness who swears to the service of husband; that both of them are now residents of said County and were duly sworn by me before signing the forgoing affidavits and that they both are truthful, trust-worthy, and their statements are entitled to full faith and credit. Personally before me comes Mrs. Ann Herndon of said State and County, and, after being duly sworn, says that she desires to apply for a pension allowed under the Act of 1910, as amended by Act of 1919, and submit testimony to make out the same, true answers makes to the following questions to-wit: 1. What is your name, and where do you reside? Ann Herndon, Newnan, Coweta, Co., Ga., R #1 2. How long and since when have you been a continuing resident of the State of Georgia? Have lived in Georgia all my life, and am now 79 years of age. 3. When, where and to whom were you married? June 11th, 1861, in Coweta County, Ga and was married to Preston A. Herndon. a. Have you married since the death of first and soldier husband? I have not 4. When, where and in what Company and Regiment did your husband enlist as a soldier in Confederate Army or Georgia Militia? (State the arms and class of Service.) P. A. Herndon enlisted in June 1861, at Newnan, Ga., in Co ”D” Phillips Legion, Cav. Confed. Service. 5. When and where did the commands of your husband surrender or discharge from the army? April 1865, at Greensboro N.C. Surrendered. 6. Was you husband personally present at the time of the surrender or discharge of this command? He was personally present at the surrender. 7. If he was not present state clearly where he was? 8. Where was his command when he left? a. For what cause did he leave his command? b. By whose authority did he leave his command? c. For how long was he granted leave of absence? d. What was his physical condition when he left his command? e. What effort did he make to return to his command? f. In what way was he prevented from going back to command g. Was he captured by the enemy at any time? h. If so, when and where captured and where held as a prisoner, and when and for what cause released? i. When and where did your first husband die? March 9th, 1901 in Coweta Co. Ga. j. Were you residing together when he died? We were residing together as man and wife. k. If not, how long had you resided apart? l. Are you now a widow? I am now his widow. 9. Have you or your husband heretofore been paid a pension by the State? No If so, when and for what cause were you or your husband placed on the roll? L. Brown who, after being duly sworn, true answers to make to the following questions, answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? My name is J. L. Brown, residing at Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia. 2. How long and since when have you known Mrs. Ann Herndon, applicant? I have known Mrs. Ann Herndon since the year 1870. 3. How long and since when has she continuously resided in this State? (Give date.) She has lived in Georgia since I knew her in the year 1870. Lived near them. 4. When and to whom was she married? June 1861 to P. A. Herndon. How do you know? From general reputation 5. How long and since when did you know P. A. Herndon her husband? I knew P. A. Herndon since June 1862, when I joined the Army in the same Co. and Regiment with him. 6. When and where did P. A. Herndon the husband of applicant, die? He died in March 1901 at his home in Coweta County, Georgia 7. Were the applicant and her husband living together as husband and wife at the date of his death? They were living together as man and wife at his death. 8. If not, how long did they live apart before his death? Living together Were they divorced? No 9. When, where and in what Company and Regiment did P A. Herndon enlist? He enlisted in June 1861, at Newnan, Georgia, in Co. “D” Phillips Legion, Cav. Conf. Army 10. Were you a member of the same Company? I was a member of the same Co. and Reg. from the date of my enlistment June 1862. P. A. Herndon was with the Company when I joined it. 11. How long within your personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with his Company and Regiment? From the date of my enlistment June 1862 to the close of the war. 12. When and where did his Command surrender, and was discharged? April 1865, at Greensboro, N.C. Surrendered. 13. Were you personally present when it was surrendered? I was present. If no, where were you Was present and how come you there? 14. Was the husband of applicant personally present at surrender? He was present. If not, where was he? He was present. When, where and for what cause did he leave Command? (Give date.) By whose authority did he leave his Command? And how long was he granted leave? How do you know all this? He was in the Company and Regiment when I joined it, and he and I served together from the date of my enlistment in June 1862 to the close of the war, surrendering together. 15. For what cause, if you know of your own knowledge, was he prevented from returning to his Command? 16. What effort did he make to return to his Command and how do you know this? Stallings, of said county, whom I certify is a truthful, reliable citizen of said county, and who, being duly sworn in support of a claim for pension made by Mrs. Ann Herndon, of said county, on oath says, “I know and have known Mrs. Ann Herndon for fifty years. I knew her husband, P. A. Herndon for more than thirty years before his death, which happened in March 1901, at his home in Coweta County, Ga. I knew Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Herndon as man and wife for over thirty year before his death. They moved into the same community in which I lived in the fall of 1869, living within a half mile of my father’s family, and I was with them frequently in their home, and they were constant visitors at my fathers home. They reared a family of children, and they lived together as man and wife from the time they moved into the community in 1869 until the death of P. A. Herndon in March 1901. They were never separated. Sworn to and subscribed before me, This Sept. 15th, 1919. W. L. Stallings L. A. Perdue Ordinary Coweta County, Georgia. Georgia Coweta County. Personally appeared before me, G. O. Scroggin of said County, whom I certify is trustworthy and reliable, and who, being duly sworn in support of a claim for pension made by Mrs. Ann Herndon, on oath says, “I lived a near neighbor to Mrs. Ann Herndon at the time of her marriage to Preston A. Herndon, in June 1861, and remember distinctly when they were married. P. A. Herndon was in the same Co. and Reg. viz. Co D Philips Legion Cav. with me during the war, and I remember that he was married just as we were enlisted to go off to the war. They lived together as man and wife up to the date of his death which happened in Coweta County, Ga., in March 1901. Sworn to and subscribed before me, This Sept. 15th, 1919 G. O. Scroggin L. A.
