Commissioner of Pensions: The petition of Mrs. Nancy T. Hardy respectfully shows that, she is a citizen of said County, and State with P. O. at Kedron (sic); that, on the 6 day of Feby 1873, she married Aquilla Hardy of the same place of residence, and live with him as his wife until 29th Day of April; that on the said 29th day of April 1884, the said Aquilla Hardy died; that prior to and at his death he was drawing a pension of Eight Dollars ($8.00) per month from the United States as a surviving soldier of the war of 1812 under pension certificate No. 12250; That, in May 1884, the said pension certificate No. 12250 was delivered, by mail, to your honor, by the instructions of your honor, and petitioner received Fourteen and 66/100 Dollors (sic)of the United States through Henry R. Smith who was a (11) Minister of Gospel and that her name before her said marriage was Nancy T. Bowler and that she has not remarried since the death of said soldier; and she further states that (12) her said husband was married one before to Nancy Hardy who died in 1870 and that her said husband (13) Aquilla Hardy died at Kedron in the state of Ga. on the 29th day of April A. D. 1884 and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the army, viz: (14) in Coweta County, Ga. - to-wit: at Newnan & at Kedron before and since their marriage. She makes this declaration for the purposed of obtaining the Pension to which she may be entitled under the provisions of Sections 4736 to 4740, inclusive, Revised Statutes, and the Act of March 9, 1879, and hereby constitutes and appoints, with full powers of substitution and revocation Harvey Spalding her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim. Boler died; that she married Aquilla Hardy on the 6th day of Feby 1873 and lived with said Aquilla Hardy as his lawful wife until the 29th day of April 1884 when the said Aquilla died. Hardy that she was formerly the wife of B. B. Boler who died in 1862; that in 1869 the said Nancy T. married Aquilla Hardy late of said County, deceased. That the said Nancy T. is one and same person who was the wife of the said Boler and later the wife of the said Aquilla Hardy, dec’d. That our means of knowledge as to the above stated facts is that the said Nancy T. Hardy February 2, 1901 – Ordered to be printed Mr. Gallinger, from the Committee on Pensions, submitted the following: REPORT [To accompany H. R. 12616] The Committee on Pensions, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 12616) granting an increase of pension to Nancy T. Hardy, have examined the same and report: The report of the Committee on Pensions to the House of Representatives is as follows: The claimant is the widow of Aquilla Hardy, who served as a private in Captain Parks’s company, Georgia Militia, war of 1812, and she is now a pensioner at the rate of $12 per month on account of the above service. Mrs. Hardy married the soldier February 6, 1873, and he died April 29, 1884. The testimony accompanying the bill, including a numerously signed petition, sets forth that claimant is bow about 90 years old, bedridden and helpless, and without property or anyone to care for her save a daughter, who is herself an invalid. There are many precedents for the proposed legislation, and in the light of the claimant’s great age and necessities, the passage of the bill is respectfully recommended. Your committee adopt the foregoing report and recommend the passage of the bill when amended as follows: In line 7 strike out the word “Indian” and the same line, after the word “war” insert the words “of eighteen hundred and twelve.” - - - - - - - - - - - - [Private – No. 502] An Act Granting and increase of pension to Nancy T. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Nancy T. Hardy, widow of Aquilla Hardy, late of the Georgia Volunteers, war of eighteen hundred and twelve, pay her a pension at the rate of twenty-five dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving.
