Gov. Hampton is organizing the State Militia. The city of Savannah is arranging for the vaccination of her population. House rent in Atlanta is lower than any time since 1865. A revival is in progress in the First Baptist Church in Athens. The Press Convention is to meet in Thomasville this year. Brunswick is arranging for a Agricultural Fair to be held the 13th of June. Dr. J. J. Hickman the champion Temperance lecture has been in Europe five months and returned to Louisville KY. The is a belled buzzard sailing around over Georgia and South Carolina. It was seen at Cartersville, Augusta and Marion SC. It’s bell can be distinctly heard. A Sad Accuracy: Mr. J. M. Gray and his young wife reside one mile from Dallas, GA. Mrs. Gray was confined to her bed with an infant a month old. She complained of a severe headache and her husband went to town for a physician. By some accident Mrs. Gray’s bed caught fire. The fire was observed by some one passing and was soon extinguished; as there happened to be a supply of water near at hand. Mrs. Gray was severely and fatally burned. She lived about 11 hours, perfectly rational and with apparently but little suffering. We learn the above from a correspondent, writing us from Dallas under date of the 10th inst. Brother Parks of the Newnan Herald is making quite a success of it, as an editor. He shows energy and writing ability, in the get up of his paper. The last issue fairly sparkles with news items. Bro. P. not satisfied with his home news. levies contributions of adjacent sections for date. This is the right way to make a county press interesting, and we admire the pluck and enterprising manner in which Bro. Parks has gone to editing the Herald. -- Carroll County Times. LOCAL DOTS Court adjourned on Tuesday n account of Judge Peoples’ feeble health. We have not completed the Church Directory -- will publish it next week. Send on your appointments, brethren. Master Thomas Beavers killed two wild turkeys at one shot, two and a half miles from Newnan. The daughter of Mr. W. S. Kennedy died Monday morning, aged about seven years. She was a member of the Methodist Sunday School, and a lovely little girl. "Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the Kingdom of Heaven" (Christ) Greenville Gleanings Greenville is improving, it has a string-band in full operation, and a brass-band too, but without any horns as yet. Mr. Hinton, the Ordinary, is the leader of one of the bands. Mr. Monroe is building a new house. He is sensible in building the cage before catching the bird. Greenville has a new grog-shop; what a pity. The town contains four preachers, two Methodist and two Baptist. The Masonic Female College under the presidency of E. W. Martin is prospering. Greenville is the captiol of the State of Merriwether.
