The State of Kentucky only owes 160,000. The Nashville Banner of recent date warns the public against counterfeit Mexican silver dollars in circulation. In the northern provinces of China the famine still rages, and whole districts are being depopulated without hope of relief. The Daily Tribune, Atlanta, is a sprightly, spicy, newsy daily, published by the Tribune publishing company at $6.00 per annum- Henry Jones, editor. We welcome it to our list of exchanges. The capitol buildings at Albany, NY has already cost the State over $8,000,000 and there is not a single room in the building completed. Of course the cry of the contractors is for more money. The population of the world 1,423,917,000. If this inconceivable multitude of men, women and children were equally distributed over the surface of the globe, there would be about 28 inhabitants to the square mile. Sargent, Senator from California, has introduced a resolution in the Senate proposing a XVI amendment to the Constitution, giving women a right to vote. He is called the Petticoat Senator. Old Ben Butler, it is said, will move at an early day for the appointment of a committee to investigate the charges of Chandler of Maine, recently made against Hayes and certain leaders of the Republican Party. There is trouble in the radical wigwam. The Russian Dispatches announce, the capture of the whole Turkish Army, defending Schipk Pass, consisting of 41 Battalions, 10 Batteries and 1 Regiment of Calvary, said to have taken place on the 9th inst. After the armistice entered into the belligerent powers but be for the fact had been communicated to the forces at Schipk Pass. The Hon. John J Patterson, Senator of South Carolina, reported near the point of death by frequent dispatches of late, was informed the other day that it was the current report that he intended to resign. The news aroused the sick senator to a full conscienceless of the situation and the importance of the subject to himself so far as he was pecuniary concerned individually, and with the dignity becoming a Senator from the Palmetto State, he said most empathetically, "I shall not resign under any consideration. If I am to be sick I should be a fool to resign, because I can lie here on my sick bed and draw my $13.00 per day!" Sensible fellow sure! The banks are all against the remonetization of silver and oppose the repeal of the odious specie resumption act. The people are in favor of these measures. It is only a question of time as to which side will eventually gain the victory. The people always win against injustice and wrong, through their opponents for the time being may seem to be carrying everything before them. Let the wrongdoers in this instance, stand from under and prepare for an ignominious overthrow of all their well laid plans for the oppression and enslavement of the people. The Savannah Cotton Exchange Association of Savannah, on the 10th inst. Held a meeting and passed some resolutions in opposition of the Silver Bill and in favor of the resumption specie payments of the government. The Savannah News says of this action of the Cotton Exchange, composed of Bankers and Bondholders, "Of course capital will sympathize with capital, and all the bankers of Wall Street, New Orleans, Savannah and other cities are embarked in the same boat but the poor people and the debtor class thing and feel very differently" on these great and vital questions to the Hon. H H Hill and his friends the bankers and bond holders. The position of Senator Hill on the financial questions of the day is not in accord with the sentiments and wishes of the people. If the Legislature of Georgia were in session he would be instructed to pursue a different line of policy to that he has recently announced for his action on the great questions at issue—or be requested to resign his seat as Georgia’s representative in the Senate, and come home. In the absence of the Legislature which will not assemble until late in this year, let the people in primary meetings call on him to respect their wishes and represent their true interests in Congress by voting for remonetization of silver and for the repeal of the odious specie resumption act of the Radicals. Perhaps the Senator by the earnest appeals of his country men may be induced to change his tactics. But whether he will persist or whether he will forbear, let him know, at least, that his course is disapproved of and condemned by the great mass of the people of Georgia.
