Wednesday Afternoon, at 8 o'clock, the home of Rev J R Nolan was the scene of a quiet but happy union of hearts. Miss Pearl Nolan was married to Mr John W Todd, from near Turin. Rev Mr Morgan, of Turin, officiated in a felicitous style, and many congratulations were showered upon the young couple by admiring friends. Last Friday night some one took the liberty of borrowing a wagon and two mules from Mr Lat Gray, and proceeded to the home of Mr E C Swygert, where they helped themselves to two of his biggest and best bales of cotton. The team and cotton were missed early next morning, and were traced to Griffin, where they had bee held on telegram sent to Mayor Boyd. The negro, or negros (for such they proved to be), had sold the cotton and escaped, but the cotton was fully identified by private marks on the bales. The chances are good for the apprehension of the parties who stole the cotton. Our whole community was saddened last Saturday by the death of Miss Annie Glass. This young lady had been an almost constant sufferer for years, but her wonderful Christian faith and fortitude had won the admiration of those who knew her. Day by day she lived a life snow-white in its goodness and purity, and at last her work was done, she passed away in peace. The funeral service was held at the Baptist church last Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, and was conducted by Rev Mr Blalock, assisted by Bro Ham. A large concourse of friends and loving sympathizers were present, and the story of her beautiful life will linger for many a day as an inspiration to the hearts of those who heard it. Thus passed heavenward one who had "fought the good fight and kept the faith." On Thursday evening last, at the home of the bride's father in this city, Miss Hattie Shields was married to Dr. C F Crouch. The ceremony was performed in an impressive and appropriate manner by Rev F M Blalock. The home of the bride was beautifully and artistically decorated, and a large circle of relatives and invited guests were present when the happy twain were made man and wife. Immediately after the ceremony the party were dined, and the bride and groom departed at once for the home of Dr. Crouch's father, who lives in Meriwether County. The bride was one of our most beautiful and lovable you women, possessed of many noble traits, and many charms of mind and person, that endear her to a host of friends and acquaintances. Dr. Crouch is a rising, prosperous young physician, and may well be congratulated on the prize he won. Senoia Enterprise-Gazette 7th Inst. Mr T S Roberts has moved to the Start hand place, recently vacated by Mr R L Arnall. Mr Arnall has moved to his farm in the country. Capt J Graham and family left last Friday for Plains, GA, where they will reside in future. Capt Graham will engage in merchandising at that place. Miss Annie Stallings, a charming young lady from Texas, has been visiting Miss Lucy Freeman. She left Wednesday for Griffin, accompanied by Miss Lucy Freeman, where they go to visit friends. FARRIOR-KIRBY from the LaGrange Reporter: On Wednesday evening, at the residence of the bride's father, Mr M R Kirby, Mr John Bruce Farrior, of Fort Deposit Ala, and Miss Emma Lou Kirby were united in marriage, Dr G A Nunnally performing the ceremony. On account of the death of the bride's relative, Mr. J C Forbes, all of the invitations which had been issued-were canceled, only the immediate families being present. The bride is one of LaGrange's most lovable and attractive young women. She is gentle, refined and cultured, and is in every way worthy of the love and confidence which her husband has placed in her. She is a graduate of the Southern Female college, and took many honors during her course in that institution. The groom belongs to a prominent Alabama family and is a rising and energetic young business man. The couple left immediately after the ceremony for their future home at Fort Deposit, Alabama. A Memorable Social Event Never fell a more perfect night. The winter moon climbed the saffron slopes of the star-embroidered orient and shed floods of silvery light through the liveried trees. It was such a night when the love god needs no torch by which to aim his golden shafts, and when pure and aspirant hearts rise superior to mundane commonplace and throb in unison with the small voice of God, heard in the scarce audible whispers of the night, pulsating with brightness and beauty. One Christmas eve occurred the most brilliant social event of the season, at the beautiful home of Dr and Mrs J R Sewell in Whitesburg. Bright lights flashed in front of the embayed windows, making the scene surprisingly beautiful. The scene within, with its decorations of holly and mistletoe, might well have suggested the dram of some imaginative painter; and a merrier crowd of boys and girls never assembled to while the hours away in heart breaking. As the golden hours sped by our thoughts drifted away from our own supreme bliss to that other Christmas, ever so many hundred years ago, when the first anthem was sung by the angels over the blue hills of Galilee. Our fair hostess forgot nothing that would add to the pleasure of her guests. What a gifted woman she is, and how well does she display her accomplishments! The mystic hour of midnight brought us back from our dream, and as the sweet strains of 'Home, Sweet Home," peeled forth, we bade our host and hostess "good night" and went home to dream of the glorious time we had spent with them. ELECTIONS Elections for the Justices of the Peace and constables were held in all the militia districts of the bounty on Saturday last, and in some of the bailiwicks there were sharp contests between contending candidates for the different places. This was notably true in the Fifth (Newnan) district, where there were two candidates contesting for the office of Justice of the Peace, and four candidates for constabulary honors. Judge Thos Swint was victorious in the first named contest, defeating ex-Ordinary W T Mattthews by a majority of 11 votes. The candidates for the other places were J T Alsabrook, A J Smith, Walter Leigh, and C B Kilgore, Messrs, Alsabrook and Smith were elected. Both were spirited races-sufficiently so, at least to bring out a good vote. The Populist put out a candidate for Justice of the Peace in Panther Creek district, and owing to the apathy of the Democrats, they succeeded in electing him, thus recording the first Populist victory that has been achieved by this party in Coweta county. The usual Democratic vote in that precinct is between 60 and 75; but in this contest only 26 Democrats voted, while the Populist nearly doubled them. So far as we have heard, there were no party contests in any of the other districts. The list of J.P.'s and constables elected throughout the county is as follows: First Dist W M Keith, JP; Lewis McCullough & Thos Entrekin Constables Second Dist H L Camp, JP; P Q Carmical & Wm O'Brien Constables Fourth Dist W H Wortham, JP; M D Millians & W M Gibson Constables Fifth Dist Thos Swint, JP; J T Alsabrook & A J Smith Constables Sixth Dist H H Haralson, JP; & C E Harrison & Ed Hardy Constables Seventh Dist G E Cranford, JP; T L Phillips & W E Smith Constables Haralson Dist A J Baughn, JP; J B Cole & M J Stewart Constables Panther Creek W T Dyer, JP; W J Tarleton & J R Atchison Constables Cedar Creek T M Sewell, JP; W D Palmer & W C Ballard Constables Grantville T M Lester, JP; C A Burks & J H Attaway Constables Hurricane B H Dial, JP; no election for Constable The polls were not opened either in the Third or Turin district.
