Mr. W. R. Evans, a farmer residing four miles west of Moreland, was attempting to cross the track with a load of cotton when his wagon was struck by the southbound vestibule from Atlanta. Mr. Evans and the two mules hitched to the wagon were hurled a distance of seventy-four feet, by actual measurement. The mules died instantly. Although horribly crushed, Mr. Evans lingered until 10 o'clock Saturday morning, when death relieved him of his sufferings. Deceased was a clever man and a good citizen, and his tragic death is sincerely mourned by his friends throughout the county. He was about 65 years of age, and is survived by a wife and eight children. The funeral took place Sunday morning, after which the remains were interred in the Meadows burying-ground, near St. Charles.
