April 26, 1901 Last Wednesday afternoon we were invited to the home of Mrs. Sarah Gable, to witness the marriage of her daughter, Miss Jodie, to Mr. John Overby, of Sharpsburg. Rev. H. R. Davies officiated. The bride is an accomplished, sweet woman, while the groom is one of Sharpsburg's cleverest and most worthy young men. More than a score of years ago Mrs. Gable was left a widow, with four daughters and one son. All are now married, except the son, who remains with her for protection. Mrs. Gable deserves praise for rearing her children to be noble men and women. Following is a list of presents received by the bride, to- wit: Mr. R. D. Cole, of Newnan -- Silver knives and forks, tablespoons and reaspoons. Mrs. R. D. Cole - Eiderdown quilt Messrs. Wynn, Glass and McDonald, of Sharpsburg - Barrel of flour. Mr. W. E. E. Martin - Five Dollars. Mr. and Mrs. Walthall? Morris of Palmetto--Two salad bowls. Mr. Raymond J. Lee, of Newnan, two pairs linen towels. Mr. J. B. Stith, of Palmetto -- Set knives and forks. Misses Stith -- China Tea set. Mr. Jim Stith--Silver spoons. Mrs. Jennie Bower Lee -- Chocolate cups. Mrs. John Bailey - Glass tea set. Miss Mattie Christian - butter knife. Mrs. Rosa Christian -- Crayon picture. M??s Kate Walker, of Carrollton --hand embroidered linen centerpiece. Miss Maud Brown Silk embroidered ceneter piece. Mrs. Pernina Moore - pincusion. Mrs. Iverson Ozmore -- puff box. Miss Amma Herring -- Dessert dishes. Miss Martha Chandler -- Pickle dish. Major Haines -- Glass water pitcher. Luther McGhee -- Berry bowl. Mrs. Willie Hawes and little Jim Brannon are both quite sick with mumps. Mrs. H. A. Martin is convalescent, after a severe attack of gripe. Mrs. J. D. Murphey is enjoying pear preserves canned six years ago. How many farmers' wives can beat this? The next session of presbytery will be held at White Oak A. R. P. Church, in November. A. M. April 24.
