In the town which was for more than half a century the scene of his activities and which he was so large a part, this sense of bereavement is universal for no man was more universally beloved or will be more sadly missed. His life work was associated with the growth of Newnan...His personal traits and characteristics were altogether admirable. He had a high sense of duty and personified in his daily walk and intercourse the lofty ideals which he had all his life reverenced as the standard of good citizenship.. Mathew Cole was born in Newton County, GA Jan 25, 1823. In December 1846 he was married to Miss Emily Wood of Chambers County, Ala., who died three years later. In 1852 he was married a second time, his last wife being Miss Nancy Turner Nall of Newnan with whom he lived happily until 1889 (?) when she too died. The children of this union now living are R.D. Cole, M.F. Cole, E.M. Cole, F.R. Cole and R.N. Cole, all worthy sons of a noble sire and living examples of the helpful influence of an honorable, highminded, industrious father. The funeral took place Wednesday morning at the Central Baptist church and was attended by a vast concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. The employees of the R.D. Cole Manufacturing Co. were present in a body...Interment was at the Oak Hill Cemetery. ________ NEGRO MAN SEEKS INFORMATION ABOUT HIS FAMILY Postmaster Atkinson has received the following communication an an attache of the post office at Nashville, Tennessee, making inquiry concerning the present whereabouts of the children of an old negro named Andrew Moore, formerly owned by Jas. Moore of this county. His owner sold him during the war to a man who carried him to Nashville and the old darkey has made his home there ever since. He now wishes to find his children and at his instance the Nashville gentleman to whom he appealed for assistance has written the following letter: Nashville, Tenn. Feb 15, 1907 Postmaster, Newnan, GA I am trying to locate for an old southern darkey by the name of Andrew Moore the whereabouts of his children: Henry, Marcellus, Doctor, Andrew Jr., Mary and Antoinette. This old darkey was sold and separated from his wife and children and brought to Nashville during the War Between the States and has seen nor heard nothing of them since. At that time he lived about 9 miles north of Newnan at what was then known as Moore's Ferry on the Chattahoochee river. He was owned by Jas. Moore who had a son by the name of Robert who was a Capt. in the Army under the command of Gen. Bragg. No doubt this son or some of this children are living at or near the old homeplace and could give the desired information. Following are some of the old inhabitants he claims were at that time living in the neighborhood of the ferry and river: Wm. Moore (a brother of Jas. Moore) Jim McGarrison Robt. N. Houseworth John Ayers John Ayers was the owner of the old negro's wife, Sophronia. Probably by having your carriers inquire of the patrons on their routes you may locate at least one ofthe sons. The old negro is very aged and feeble and has no means of getting his living except what is given him by the couple who know him. He feels that he cannot live but a short time and of late has been talking and worrying a great deal about his children and is anxious to get in communication with at least one of them. He is an honest, old time darkey and is highly respected by all who know him. I am connected with the post office here and know you to be in a better position to get the desired information, than anyone else there. If you possibly can through the aid of your carriers or otherwise, communicate any information to me that will lead to the whereabouts of any of these sons and you will make this old soul happy, and I assure you the same will be greatly appreciated by all who know "Uncle Andy".
