NEWSPAPER NOTICES FROM "THE HERALD & ADVERTISER", Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia for MARCH 29, 1907 NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, March 29, 1907 HANDY News "Aunt" Martha Brown is visiting her sister, "Aunt" Susan Jackson in Carroll County. __ Mrs. Martha Melson and grandson Melson Ware of Cooksville were the guest of Mrs. Carrie Jackson last Monday. __ The many friends of Prof. Leonard Bevis sympathize with him in the death of his father, Mr. Frank Bevis of Franklin. __ Mr. and Mrs. Luther Kidd spent Sunday with the family of Mr. Will McKoy near Mt. Carmel. __ The all day quilting given by Mrs. O.M. Cavender last Tuesday was enjoyed by everyone. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Hembree spent a few days last week with their daughters, Mrs. E.S. Banks and Mrs. J.W. Hines. __ Mr. R.B. Posey and wife spent Sunday with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Tate at Newnan. __ Mrs. Fannie Tolbert of Grantville is spending the week with her daughter, Mrs. Alma Gamel. __ TURIN News Mr. W.C. Reese of Harris County is at his brothers' near Turin, quite indisposed. __ MADRAS News While going home Saturday evening, Mr. J.T. Brown Jr., was thrown by his mule with the result that both bones between the elbow and hand of his left arm were broken. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery. ___ Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Cook of Senoia are boarding at Mr. J.R. Wise's while Mr. Cook does duty as a guard at the convict camp. ___ Mr. and Mrs. A.B. McKoy and children of Welcome, spent Saturday night with their sister, Mrs. W.T. Moore. __ Mr. Almon Cook and sister Miss Mattie were the guests Sunday of their cousin Miss Bessie Cook. __ Miss Maggie Gray who has been spending awhile her with aunt, Mrs. Kansas Benton, has returned to her home in Carroll County. __ Mrs. H.W. Camp had a severe fall last week and is suffering very much from the injuries received. __ Mr. Talley of Arkansas has come to live with his uncle, Mr. P.M. Walton the present year. __ NEWNAN HOME AFFAIRS Mrs. W.A. Steed is visiting relatives in Greenville. __ Mrs. E.S. Buchanan is visiting relatives in Greenville this week. __ Mr. J.J. Reese of Macon is visiting his other this week near town. __ Mrs. J.E. Hannah and little son are visiting relatives at Thomaston, GA. __ Mrs. Geo. P. Harrison who came up a few days ago to visit her parents, Dr. and Mrs. G.A. Nunnally has returned to Opelika. __ Mr. Alvan Potts and family left yesterday for Quincey, Florida where they will make their home in the future. __ The Franklin papers record the death of Mrs. C.J. Lancaster which occured at Cooksville last week. __ Mrs. W.T. Strickland of Whitesburg, visited her daughter Mrs. Allen Crain the first of the week. __ We regret to know that Mr. W.G. Camp continues quite ill at his home on Lagrange street. __ Moses Banks, colored, of the sixth district, was tried for lunacy before Judge Perdue last week and adjudged insane. He was carried to the State Sanitorium Tuesday by Sheriff Brewster. __ Capt. J.E. Stallings who has been spending the winter with his children in Texas, has returned to our town to enjoy the summer picnics, barbecues, reunions and good pure air. Senoia Enterprise-Gazette. __ A fine speciman of the Indian peacepipe has been presented to the Library by Mr. J.M. Futral of this city. It is twelve inches long, hand carved from stone and was found on Yellow Dirt creek, Heard County, about a month ago. __ For several months past, Newnan Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy has been collecting photographs of Confederate soldiers who enlisted from Coweta County, and has secured quite a number. These are displayed on the walls of the assembly room at the library and the collection is being constantly added to. Recent additions are as follows: Lieut. O.D. Carmical, Co. Brown, Co. A 1st GA Rgt. Also protographs of Dr. A.B. Calhoun, Wm. B. Shell and Jas. J. Pinson, delegates from Coweta to the Secession Convention which met at Milledgeville on Feb 19, 1861; and a large engraving of Gen. R.E.
