GA NEWSPAPER NOTICES FROM "THE HERALD & ADVERTISER", Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia for MAY 31st, 1907 NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, May 31, 1907 Mrs. Sallie M. Taylor, widow of the late Dr. J.M. Taylor of Corinth, Miss., died Friday afternoon at a private sanitarium in Atlanta as the result of injuries sustained from a fall four weeks ago. Deceased was a sister of Mr. S.W. Murray and had frequently visited Newnan, where she made friends of everyone with whom she came in contact. She was a good woman who had more than her share of sorrow in life and now that she has gone to her reward it is some consolation to know that she is again united with her loved ones. Her nearest surviving relatives are two brothers and three sister, S.W. Murray of Newnan; Alex. S. Murray of Griffin; Mrs. C.M. Speer of McDonough; Mrs. L.M. Weems of Atlanta; and Mrs. M.A. Tyus of Barnesville. The remains were carried to Corinth, Miss., Saturday for interment. _____ It was a great shock to the friends of Mr. Ralph Ramey to hear of his death, which occurred Friday afternoon at East Point, GA after an illness of two weeks. Deceased was born and reared in Newnan but removed to Atlanta about six years ago where he engaged in railroad work. At the time of his death he was filling a responsible clerical position in the freight department of the Georgia railroad where he was held in high esteem, not only for his business abilities but for his genial personal qualities as well. he was 33 years of age and unmarried. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. J.T. Fain of Newnan, and two brothers, Mr. J.B. Ramey also of this city and Mr. Geo. W. Ramey of Atlanta. The remains were brought to Newnan on Saturday and on Sunday morning at half past 9 o'clock the funeral took place from the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. J.T. Fain, services being conducted by Rev. J.S. Hardaway, assisted by Rev. J.E. Hannah. The interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery. ____ MEMORIAM OF MRS. BARBARA SHARP BANTA Mrs. Barbara Sharp Banta, of precious memory, was born near Vevay in Switzerland County, Indiana on November 27, 1824, and the sunrise of heaven dawned on her ransomed soul May 15, 1907. Her parents were Scotch, having emigrated to this country from Glasgow in 1810 and settled in the above named place. When eighteen years of age she was married to Mr. Jackson Cole. One son, Marion, was born to them who still survives her in Indiana. She had also one brother, Wm. Sharp, who lives in the far West. In 1862 she was married to H.H. Banta who on April 9, 1897, ascended to meet the reward on the faithful. The sole fruit of their union, our esteemed townsman, H.S. Banta, received his mother into his home in Newnan Sept 3, 1890 and surrounded her with every care and attention that love could devise. Mrs. Banta at the tender age of 12 years, united with the Methodist Episcopal church, giving to its service the devotion of youth and early womanhood and the rich experience of her riper years. In rich compensation for physical blindness, her soul seemed thick set with eyes of spiritual insight...In health, her mind was exquisitely balanced and the compass of her life pointed true to home, church and heaven... _________ TURIN News DIED - - Mrs. Micajah Johnson died on the 15th inst., at the home of her son near Turin. She had reached her 85th year and most of her life was spent in the community where she died. She had been a long member of hte Baptist church. Her husband died several years ago. After funeral services her remains were interred in the Elmore cemetery near Senoia. She is survived by four sons. ____ MORELAND News Mrs. Smith visited her sister Mrs. Marvin Camp last week. She will go to her home at Cartersville this week. __ Mrs. Henry Spratling is on the sick list. __ MADRAS News Grandmother Ferrell continues quite ill. __ Mrs. John Smith of Atlanta is at the bedsise of her mother, Mrs. Ferrell. __ Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Lewis visited their sister, Mrs. Z.R. Vineyard at Sharpsburg last Sunday. __ Mr. Ben Redwine of Grantville and Mr. Earl Redwine of Trimble were up to see their parents Sunday. __ DODSON News Mrs. Margaret Edwards died Friday morning and was buried Saturday at Macedonia. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F.J. Amis. Mrs. Edward was nearly 75 years of age. ___ LONE OAK News Mrs. Richard Maxwell who with her children has been visiting her parents here. __ Mrs. Elizabeth Waggoner experienced a sudden and serious attack of illness Saturday afternoon from which is is now but partially recovered. ___ ROCK SPRING News The many friends of Mr. John Barge of Fayette county regret very much to hear of his death which occurred a few days ago. The bereaved family have our sincere sympathy. __ Miss Lizzie Parrott is visiting her sister, Mrs. Hester Posey at Whitesburg. __ NEWNAN HOME AFFAIRS Col. W.L. Stallings and wife are visiting relatives at Guyton, GA. __ Mrs. J.R. Lasseter, wife of the secretary and treasurer of the Hutcheson Manufacturing Co., died Monday night at Banning after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband and five children, the youngest an infant of six months. ___ Three of the oldest ladies in the county have died within the past week. Mrs. S.M. Edwards, aged 75, died Friday at the home of her son, Dr. J.R. Edwards at Roscoe; Miss Amanda Story, aged 65, died Friday night at the home of her sister near Welcome; Mrs. Judith J. Luckie, aged 85, who also resided near Welcome died Monday night.
