GA NEWSPAPER NOTICES FROM "THE HERALD & ADVERTISER", Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia for SEPTEMBER 6, 1907 thru SEPTEMBER 13th, 1907 SUDDEN DEATH OF DR. SAM HARRIS Carrollton, GA - Sept 4th - - Dr. Sampson W. Harris Jr., a prominent dentist here and son of Judge Sampson W. Harris, was found dead in his room at home this morning about 8 thirty o'clock. No evidence of violence was shown and his death is thought to have been due to apoplexy. Judge Harris, father of the young man, left for Atlanta yesterday and his two unmarried daughters, Misses Pauline and Lucy Harris went to Tallapoosa to bid goodbye to their sister, Mrs. Belle Stokeley who was preparing to return to her home in Shreveport, LA. The young ladies arrived at home on the train reaching Carrollton about 4 o'clock this morning and retired. At the breakfast hour efforts were made to awaken Dr. Harris and it was found that he was dead. Dr. Harris was about 34 years of age and unmarried. He leaves, besides his three sisters, and his father, two brothers. They are Dr. Roy Harris of Atlanta and Dr. Steve Harris of Valdosta, both of whom are prominent in the medical profession. ________ DEATH OF CAPT. J. H. WYNN Capt. J.H. Wynn, whose illness has been mentioned in these columns from time to time during the past few months, breathed his last on Tuesday morning at his country home near Sharpsburg. About five months ago Capt. Wynn suffered a stroke of paralysis which prostrated him and from that time until his death he remained an invalid. On Friday night last he grew suddenly worse and it was apparent to those at his bedside that his life was fast nearing its end. Just before noon on Tuesday his spirit passed into the silent beyond, death coming peacefully and painlessly at last as his loved ones could have wished. Capt. Wynn was one of Coweta's most prominent and useful citizens and will be sadly missed by everyone. Although a successful man of affairs with a shrewd instinct for business the person side of his nature was thoroughly pleasing and he had hosts of friends throughout the county. He was for many years a member of the county board of education and doubtless could have had any office in the gift of the people had he sought political preferment; but he refused always to allow his name to be used as a candidate, saying he preferred the quiet and comfort of country life to any position that might be offered him. At the outbreak of the Civil War he was a cadet at the Georgia Military Institute; but notwithstanding his youth, he enlisted along with the other brave young spirits from that institution and saw hard service before the close of hostilities making a record for bravery and fidelity to duty that did credit to his soldierly qualities. Capt. Wynn was 63 years of age and is survived by his wife and four splendid sons, the latter being Ernest, Gordon, George and Earl Wynn. Mrs. H.C. Arnall Sr. of this city was a sister. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at Coke's Chapel and was largely attended. Services were conducted by Rev. V.A. Ham of this city, assisted by Rev. W.A. Davis of Senoia. ____________ ORDINARY'S COURT The following business was disposed of at the regular monthly term of the Ordinary's Court on Monday last: Last Will and Testament of Margaret Boyd, deceased, admitted to probate in common form. ETHEL LENA FERRELL (Nee Lambert) Mrs. Ethel Lena Ferrell (nee Lambert) was born July 29, 1880 and died July 26, 1907, just three days before she had reached the twenty-seventh milestone in the journey of life. She was the daughter of Thomas J. and Martha Holeman Lambert, who in the pioneer days of the county settled on Yellow Jacket creek must outside the corporate limits of Grantville. In that happy home was reared a large family of children, sons and daughters who have grown up to be useful, honorable men and women. Among them was Ethel Lena, the subject of this memoriam. An obedient, loving daughter, a devoted sister, she was the light and joy of the home. By her gentle manner and amiable disposition she endeared herself to a large circle of friends and acquaintances. On the 31st of December 1899, she was led to the nuptial altar by Mr. Charles H. Ferrell, to whom she proved a helpmeet good and true. The few short years that she was permitted to walk by his side, in sunshine and in shadow, were fraught with unalloyed happiness. To this union were born two children, a daughter Bennie Clyde, 6 years of age and a son Blakely Eugene, just 2 years old. Early in life she gave her heart to god and united with the Methodist church at Grantville... In addition to a grief stricken husband and two orphaned children, she leaves five brothers: Blakely, Martin, Thomas, Eugene and Clyde Lambert, of Grantsville; and one sister, Mrs. Elnora Lambert Layton of Cordova, Ala., to mourn her untimely death.
