Carpenter, which occurred last Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. was a cause of deep regret to his friends and neighbors, among whom he had lived so long. He was born in November 1836 and for 61 years and 4 months lived in our community. All of his life was spent on or near the spot where he was born, with the exception of four years' faithful service in the Civil War. He never joined any church but did many charitable deeds in a quiet, unobtrusive way. He was always faithful in the performance of duty, and ever ready to lend a helping hand. He leaves a devoted wife and four children to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. ___ Mr. Joe Gaddy of White Oak community, buried his little 3 year old boy at Bethlehem last Sunday afternoon. The child's death was caused by accidental shooting on Friday before. May the Great Giver of all blessings console him and his family in their bereavement. ___ Mrs. R.C. Trammell and Mrs. J.W. Trammell of Lutherville visited Mrs. E.E. Fry last week. __ Mr. Ben Boswell and wife were called last week to the bedside of the latter's mother in Newnan who is seriously ill. ___ Mr. Clifford Haines and sister Miss Lizzie Haines of Sharpsburg, attended the funeral of their Uncle, Mr. R.T. Carpenter last Thursday. ___ Mrs. N.A Chandler of Atlanta is visiting relatives in our community this week. ___ TURIN News We sympathize with Mr. Luther Couch in the loss of his dear wife, whose death occurred Sunday at their home near Senoia. The husband and several small children are left to mourn their loss. ___ Mr. Egbert Johnson and entire family are victims of the measles epidemic. __ LEE's CHAPEL News Messrs. R.N. and R.E.J. Winkles have bought seven or eight thousand feet of lumber and will build a barn to hold the big crop of corn they expect to make this year. ___ We are glad to know that Mrs. J.A. Landers, who has been quite sick, is better at this writing. __ RAYMOND News Mrs. G.R. Roberson visited her sister, Mrs. J.E. Brittain one day last week. __ Mrs. E.W. Haynie visited her sister, Mrs. R.E. McDonald one day last week. __ Mr. J. Robert Neely visited his sister, Mrs. Hartwell Nolan, at Cedartown last Saturday and Sunday. __ MT. CARMEL News Mr. Jeff Hutchens of Anniston, ALa., will spend some time in our community visiting his parents and other relatives. ___ Mr. W.W. Cavender is on the sick list this week. __ Mrs. J.L. McKoy visited her niece, Mrs. O.S. Fincher at Elim on Sunday. __ Mr. John Ingram of Texas is visiting his sisters Mrs. Matt Story and Mrs. Will Robinson. ___ NEWNAN HOME AFFAIRS Born, to Mr. and Mrs. D.F. Patterson, of Griffin, a son. ___ Born, on the 26th inst., to Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Arnall Jr., a son. __ Miss Sallie Arnall of Senoia is visiting her sister, Mrs. Z. Greene. __ Mrs. D.S. Hubbard of Mulberry, Fla., is visiting relatives in the city. __ Miss Gabrielle Johnson left Tuesday for a visit to her grandmother at Jeffersonville, GA. __ Born on the 25th inst., to Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stephens of Carrollton, twin girls. __ Mr. Dana Stevens of Cincinanati, Ohio is visiting his mother, Mrs. Kate Stevens. __ Mr. J.T. Ingram of Wolfe City, Texas is visiting his sisters, Mrs. M.R. Story and Mrs. W.W. Robinson near Mt. Carmel. __ Mr. C.W. Weesner was called to Summerville, GA the first of the week by a telegram announcing the critical illness of his father. ___ Mrs. W.C. Stocks of Barnesville, who came up to be with her sister Mrs. J.E. Smith during the latter's illness, returned home last week. ___ Mr. Henry Hall, a prominent and popular citizen of Greenville, died suddenly in that city Wednesday afternoon. He was a nephew of the late Dr. J.H. Hall of this city. __ Miss Elizabeth Word and Mr. Grover Megahee were quietly married Wednesday evening in Atlanta, Dr. J.W. Lee officiating. The bride is the daughter of the late A.R. Word, formerly of Newnan and one of the most attractive young women of Atlanta. The groom holds a responsible position with one of the Witham banks in that city and is a young man of sterling qualities and splendid business ability. Mr. and Mrs. Megahee are at home to their friends at 422 Whitehall street, Atlanta. __ Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Croft went down to Opelika on Monday to attend the funeral of their sister, Mrs. Homer Bruce, whose death occurred in that city Sunday morning. Mrs. Bruce formerly resided in Newnan and the news of her death was a great shock to her many friends here. ___ Mrs. Luther A. Couch died Sunday afternoon after an illness of eight weeks. She was 42 years of age. Mrs. Couch was the daughter of Mr. J.M. Entrekin and a sister of Mr. T.J. Entrekin and is survived by her husband and seven children. Senoia Enterprise-Gazette. ____ Mrs. Fletcher Lamar Sheffield, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Harris, will leave tomorrow for Newnan, where she will be guest of her cousin, Miss Olivia Harris.
