Ware Steed, formerly a merchant of this place, but for the past eighteen months connected with the International Harvester Co. and with J. J. & J. E. Maddox, wholesale grocers of Atlanta, to take a double dose of morphine and laudanum Monday at his residence in Atlanta, from the effects of which he died in the Grady Hospital Tuesday morning about 8 o'clock. For a time it was thought he could be pulled through, but the combined efforts of the best physicians were unsuccessful. Mr. Steed came in from a trip on the road Sunday morning and it is said seemed very despondent. Monday morning he went down town and bought the drugs, returned home and swallowed them. His wife discovered the fact early in the afternoon when she hurriedly summoned medical aid. He was soon carried to the hospital and given every possible attention, but to no avail. Mr. Steed possessed excellent business qualifications, and made friends easily, and his career in life to start with seemed very bright, and his death is a shock to all who knew him. The remains were brought to Senoia Tuesday evening and were carried to the home of his uncle, Mr. H. L. Ware, where the funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J. W. R. Jenkins in a very appropriate manner. The interment was in the city cemetery. Mr. Steed was twenty-eight years of age and leaves a loving wife and two sweet little children to mourn for the loved one who is no more.
