I appreciate these kindly attentions and expressions more than words can convey. Mrs. D.E. Elmore, Senoia, Ga., Nov. 19th --- SENOIA News Mr. D.E. Elmore, one of our old and highly respected citizens, died Tuesday evening after an illness of several weeks. The deceased was born near Senoia on Jan. 12, 1838** where he was reared and lived until he moved with his wife to this city about six years ago. He was the father of two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Higgins who resides at Alps [Meriwether Co.] and the late Mrs. L.G. Morgan who died several years ago. His aged wife survives him. Mr. Elmore was a brave and fearless Confederate soldier, being a member of Co. D. 19th Ga. Rgt. He was twice wounded, once in the head from which he was unconscious for thirteen days, being left on the battlefield for dead, but was later picked up by his brother J.C. Elmore and nursed back to health. When well enough he went back to the duties of soldier and served until the battle of Ocean Pond, Fla., where he lost one of his legs, thus closing his career as a soldier. The people honored him many times and he always discharged his duties faithfully and well. He served as County Treasurer one term, as doorkeeper of the Georgia Legislature one or more terms and several years as ex-officio Justice of the Peace of this district. He had been a Mason nearly all of his life and loved the order next to the Christian church of which he was a lifelong member. After funeral services by his pastor, Rev. D. A. Brindle, the remains were laid to rest with Masonic honors in the Elmore cemetery where a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives gathered to pay a last tribute. [**Note: The Elmore family bible gives Daniel's birthdate as 13 Jan 1838] --- NEWNAN HOME AFFAIRS News Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Morgan went down to Senoia Wednesday to attend the funeral of Mr. D. E. Elmore whose death occurred at that place on Tuesday. The deceased was the father-in-law of Mr. Morgan.
