He married my Great Grandmother, Johnnie Mae Taylor, around 1913. They had 2 daughters, Willie Mae Ledford KEMPSON Shierling (my paternal grandmother), born 1-13-1914, of COWETA COUNTY, GA and Verna Clyde Ledford LASSETTER, born 10-20-1917, also of COWETA COUNTY, GA. William "Willie" A. Ledford died in an automobile accident on 12-15-1955 in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL. He had moved to the Tampa area around 1917, prior to the birth of his youngest daughter. He left home one day and was never heard from again. My family had tried to locate him for many years. I was finally able to locate him through his draft registration records, and then located him on the 1920 and 1930 Hillsborough Co., FL Census records. Once in Tampa, he married Lelia Hooper. Together they had 3 children. Below is his death notice that was published in the Tampa Morning Tribune, Friday, December 16, 1955: DRAFT BOARD MEMBER DIES IN ACCIDENT William Albert Ledford, Sr., of Seffner, a member of Tampa's Local Draft Board No. 32, was killed in an automobile accident last night. Ledford died at a Tampa hospital after he was thrown from a car when it collided with another at Wheeler and Kingsway roads near Seffner. He was 63 years old. Highway Patrolman, Heywood Jones said Mr. Ledford was a passenger in a car driven by William Kermit Lewis, 60, of 1011 East Flora St., and the crash followed Lewis' failure to yield right of way at the intersection. Lewis, who suffered back and rib injuries, was charged by the trooper with failure to yield the right of way. OTHER DRIVER INJURED The driver of the other auto involved, Melvin Brady Harris, 18, of Brandon, suffered severe cuts and bruises in the accident, when his car overturned in the collision. Both cars were a total loss, Trooper Jones reported. He estimated damages at $1,400. Before moving to Seffner, 30 years ago, Mr. Ledford had been associated with the Tampa Union Station as baggage and ticket agent. He was a member of the Seffner Baptist Church, past master and treasurer of Brandon Lodge No. 114, F.&A.M., Plant City Chapter No. 16, R.A.M., Commandery No. 6, Tyler Council No. 4, R.N.S.M. and Lindsey Chapter No. 15, O.E.S. He was a veteran of the first World War and a member of the American Legion. In recent years his interest has been devoted to farming and citrus growing. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Lelia Ledford, Seffner; a daughter, Mrs. Cameron C. Holley, Tampa; two sons, William A. Ledford, Jr., and James D. Ledford, Seffner. Arrangements will be announced by B.
