This file was contributed by: Dianne Wood Cowetafamilies@yahoo.com ==================================================================== The Atlanta Constitution, page 26, Wednesday, Sept 29, 1948 MISS LEWIS, CONSTITUTION WORKER, DIES Miss Constance Lewis, Woman's Department Make-Up Editor of The Atlanta Constitution, died unexpectedly at her home, 3561 Atlanta Ave, Hapeville, last night. Miss Lewis was in her early 20's. A native Atlantan, Miss Lewis was a graduate of Hapeville High School. She was a member of the Hapeville Methodist Church, and an active member of the Fellowship Class there. During the war she was a hostess at the Atlanta USO. She was a member of the Hapeville Music Club. Following her graduation, in 1942, Miss Lewis joined the staff of The Atlanta Constitution Women's Department. She recently had been made Make-Up Editor. Miss Lewis also assembled and edited many of the paper's most widely read features, including the comic pages. She edited the daily radio programs, and The Constitution's amusement calendar. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Joe. D. Lewis; a brother, Sammy Lewis, and her grandmother, Mrs. N. N. Henslee, all of Hapeville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brandon Funeral Home. ======================================== The Atlanta Constitution, page 18, Thursday, Sept 30, 1948 MISS LEWIS' SERVICES SET THIS AFTERNOON Funeral Services for Miss Constance Lewis, Woman's Department Make-Up Editor of The Constitution who died Tuesday night at her home, 3561 Atlanta Ave., Hapeville, will be conducted at 3 pm today at the Hapeville First Methodist Church. The Rev. W. C. Budd, the Rev. E. C. Wilson and the Rev. L B. Jones will officiate, burial will be in West View Cemetery. Miss Lewis suffered an attack of asthma. Efforts by Hapeville firemen to revive her were unsuccessful. Her personal physician was present at the time of her death. Miss Lewis, a native of Atlanta, joined the staff of The Constitution's Woman's Department in 1942. She assembled and edited many of the paper's most popular features, including the daily comic pages, crossword puzzles and patterns. ========================================= The Atlanta Constitution, page 18, Thursday, Sept 30, 1948 The friends and relatives of Miss Connie Lewis, Mrs Mamie Lewis, Mr. Samuel Lewis, and Mrs. N. N. Henslee, all of Hapeville, are invited to attend the funeral of Miss Connie Lewis this (Thursday) afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Hapeville First Methodist Church. Rev. W. C. Budd, Rev. E. C. Wilson, and Rev. L. V. Jones will officiate. Interment in West View Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church from 2 o'clock until funeral hour. The following gentlemen will please serve as pallbearers and assemble at the church at 2:45: Messrs, Luther Kenady, Robert Williamson, Boyd Fry, Joe Cole, Wellington Wright, and Paul Jones. Great great grandtr of William Washington "Wash" (ca 1816-1900) and Jane Brooks (ca 1822-1890's) Couch. Both buried at Bethel Methodist Church, Senoia, Coweta County Georgia. G-g-great granddtr of Levi & Linny Stone Couch. Both probably buried at Bethel too. & of Zemariah & Mary Brooks. g-g-g-g granddtr of Benjamin & Delilah Couch of South Carolina.
