Prescott and son Radney Prescott of Bessemer, arrived this morning, the occasion being the death of their kinsman, Mrs. C.D. Manley. --- MR. C.D. MANLEY PASSED MONDAY FROM THIS LIFE TO THE REWARDS ON THE OTHER SIDE When the fingers of death reached out and clutched in their relentless grasp the failing physical frame of Mr. Cass D. Manley, late Monday afternoon, they ruthlessly touched a tender spot in many a heart that long had loved this courtly, genial gentleman. Not only was Mr. Manley dearly loved by those of his own home circle, for he possessed those characteristics of gentleness and human sympathy that made him a favorite with all who knew him. By nature and by experience he was a fine nurse and throughout his life he gave much time to caring the the sick and ministering to the suffering. And having spent his entire life of 64 years in this community, it is no wonder there are so many to mourn his passing and to bless his memory. The loss of another one of the oldest residents, one of the original citizens of this town, is felt in peculiar way by those who have resided here all these years. The deceased belonged to a prominent family of five sons and two daughters, all of whom are dead except one, Mrs. Atchison of Texarkana. For several years, Mr. Manley's health has been feeble but he was able to be up till the day or so before the final illness. He expressed his willingness to go when it was evident the end was near. He had been a member of the Baptist church forty years. Few were more faithful in attendance or more interested in the work of the church than he. A large congregation assembled at the Baptist church at three on Tuesday afternoon, where the last rites were held, amidst an abundance of pretty flowers. Dr. Hines delivered a beautiful and comforting funeral oration. Mr. O'Keefe and Mr. Martin had part in the service. Interment was at the local cemetery. The widow and six children survive. The children are: Mrs. R.M. Causey, Dr. John R. Manley, Mrs. A.L. Weaver, Frank Manley, Fred Manley and Mrs. Howard Thulberry. All were present at the end except Mr. Frank Manley who arrived from Florida in time for the funeral. Additional Comments: Alabama Deaths, 1908-59 Name: Casper D.
