   Mrs. Alice L Martin, 85, who was called “Granny” by her 53 
living descendants, died Thursday at the residence of her 
daughter, Mrs. E. D. Hanes, 26 Gould St. S. E. Funeral services 
will be held at 2 pm Saturday at the Bethel Baptist Church in 
Redan. The Rev. J. W. Fields and the Rev. J. L. King will 
officiate. Burial will be in the churchyard.
   A native of DeKalb County, Mrs. Martin had lived there and in 
Atlanta most of her life. She was the widow of J. A. Martin, a 
truck farmer of Redan. She was an active member of the Decatur 
Heights Baptist Church.  
   Surviving are five sons, J. Z., Emory and C. A. Martin of 
Atlanta, J. L Martin of Decatur, and W. W. Martin of Richmond 
VA; two daughters, Mrs G. C. Hanes and Mrs E. D. Hanes of 
Atlanta; 25 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and several 
nieces and nephews.
