Unknown Newspaper - after 11 June 1923
Uncle Harrison Nixon is no more in this life.  How sad the thought!  Over 96 
years on earth was his portion, and it was a glorious benediction to the 
thousands who knew and loved him.  Should our feeble pen try to portray his 
noble life in these columns?  We are not equal to the task; besides, it is 
unnecessary, for it is an open book and speaks for itself far better that 
anything we might say.  We that God for divine help that we may be fitted to 
live as he lived.  His tenement of clay is resting now in Bethel cemetery, to 
await the resurrection morn, when he shall rise in immortality to be with his 
Redeemer ever more.   Why should we grieve?

Additional Comments:
Harrison Nixon was born 17 May 1827 in Walton Co., Georgia to Joseph Nixon and 
Martha "Patsey" Ward.   He married Elvira H. Elmore, daughter of Giles Elmore 
and Amy Morgan on 16 Dec 1851 in Coweta Co., Georgia.   Harrison and Elvira 
were the parents of six children: Joseph Giles Nixon, Martha Madora "Dora" 
Nixon, Charles Bartow Nixon, Lucy Amy Nixon, and Alice Pearl Nixon.

He was served in the Civil War in Company H, 4th GA Cavalry.   Harrison was 
captured in Oct 1863 at Lookout Mountain, TN and imprisioned at Rock Island 
Barracks on Rock Island, Illinois for the remainder of the war.  Released June 
1865.

He was a member of Bethel Methodist Church near Senoia, where he and Elvira are 
buried.  He died 11 June 1923.
