For some time his health had been such that it was known that the end would probably come suddenly at any time. Yet as he seemed to be getting along so well for the past few days his death was a shock to his loved ones and friends. He attended services at the Lutheran Church Sunday morning and while he did not feel well enough to attend evening services, he insisted that he felt well enough for his wife and neice to leave him and attend. This they did and upon their returning home found him to be gradually growing worse. They summoned their family physician but to no avail, for as he told his wife, the end was at hand. It was around 12:30am when he peacefull passed away. Mr Rawls life was one of the finest examples of true Christian manhood this community has ever known, he was honest, agreeable, neighborly, and a genuine high toned gentleman.... His 79 years of life in this community, the place of his birth, is worthy of emulation... The deceased is survived by a wife and 6 children, Mr Leon Rawls of Zebulon, Miss Myrl Rawls of Washington DC, Mr Everett Rawls of Griffin, Mrs W A Hutchinson of Orlando FL, Mrs J B Rawls of Birmingham AL & Miss Martha Rawls who is teaching at Wrightsville, one sister Mrs G P Hodnett of Atlanta...
