More than 10,000 Confederate sick and wounded and about 200 Federal soldiers wounded in the Battle at Brown's Mill were cared for in these hospitals and in private homes. The hospitals were directed and supervised by Samuel H. Stout, Army Medical Director Department fo Tennesse. Loyal men and women of the county rendered valuable aid.
