COUCH, according to the Rites of your Church, provided there be no lawful cause to obstruct the same, according to the Constitution and Laws of this State, and for so doing this shall be your sufficient license. Given under my Hand and Seal this twelfth day of January, 1854. Batty W. Mitchell, Ordinary (L.S.) To any Minister of the Gospel, Judge, Justice of the Inferior Court, or Justice of the Peace, to Celebrate. I hereby Certify, That Green KARR and Sarah (O.) COUCH were joined together in the Holy Bans of Matrimony, on the Twelfth day of January, 1854, by me, Jas. S. Calhoun JIC Additional Comments: In the License protion of this document, Green's surname is spelled CARR - a common error, even today. Sarah's middle initial is given as "O.", however, I have an affidavit attached to a Widows' Pension File, signed by R.D. Cole, Sr., stating that he was present and saw the marriage referred to in written certificate and that Mrs. S.J. KARR is the same woman mentioned in said certificate." Sarah gave her name, in the Pension Application, as Sarah Jane KARR. I am certain that Green's name was spelled KARR and that Sarah's middle initial was actually a mis-read "J".
