Brad Willis The Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. family cemetery is located on Allen Road in Crawford County, Georgia. The cemetery is about 100 yards from the circa 1830 Reverend Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. home. The first known burial was Zillah Allen Smith Johnson (May 29, 1806 - May 23, 1832), a daughter of Rev. Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Allen Smith. The 192 acre property surrounding the cemetery is currently owned by John H. Wilson, Jr. The property is listed as parcel #C064 001 in the records of the Crawford County, Georgia Board of Tax Assessors. There is an historic rock fence surrounding this small family cemetery. In his 1839 Crawford County will, Rev. Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. stated: "My wish and desire is that when it may be practicable that 2 marble slabs shall be procured from Cherokee, one to be placed over my grave, the other over my beloved wife's after her decease. Enclosed with this instrument will be a short epitaph subject to the revision of my family. The dividend going to Nathan Johnson's children above named shall be paid to him who is their natural guardian, and he is hereby authorized if he thinks proper to apply a part of that amount to placing a tomb stone (a marble slab) over his late wife [Zillah Allen Smith Johnson] (my daughter's) grave. I hereby direct that a solid stone wall be made around my grave yard of sufficient rise for the use of my family's burying ground, and in case of any sale the burying ground or grave yard be exempted and provided for as the law may direct." Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Allen Smith. She married Nathan Johnson on December 11, 1823 in Oglethorpe County, GA. Nathan Johnson was a member of the Cherokee Corner Methodist Church. Rev. Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. was born August 30, 1776 in Cumberland County, Virginia and later died January 18, 1852 in Crawford County, Georgia. He married Mary "Polly" Allen on January 19, 1797 according to the A. G. Smith, Sr. Bible. He began his ministry in 1807 and was licensed to preach in 1801 (Methodist Preachers in Georgia, 1783-1900, A Supplement.) Rev. Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. is listed, as are many of his relatives, as a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Oglethorpe County, GA in 1820. They moved to Crawford County, GA circa 1824. He and his wife are buried at the A. G. Smith family cemetery near his home in Crawford County, GA. He was the son of Robert Smith, Jr. (1749-1834) and Hannah Andrews Smith (1755-1845). Robert Smith, Jr. was a veteran of the American Revolution. Mary "Polly" Allen Smith was born December 21, 1777 in Hanover County, Virginia and later died April 19, 1857. She married Rev. Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. on January 19, 1797. She and her husband are buried at the A. G. Smith, Sr. family cemetery near their home in Crawford County, GA. She was the daughter of Daniel Allen (1728-1807) and Johanna Read/Reed Hill. Daniel Allen was a veteran of the American Revolution. Harriet A. Feagin was the wife of Samuel T. Feagin.
