Crawford County Georgia Homestead Exemption Lafayette Kelsey File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Cheryl Aultman Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/crawford.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm Homestead Exemption Lafayette Kelsey Crawford County, Georgia April 13, 1885 To the Ordinary of said county The petition of Lafayette Kelsey respectfully showeth that he is a resident of said county & that he is the head of a family consisting of himself & his wife aged 44 years - Alice C aged 20 years - Irene E 18 years - Lena R aged 16 years - Lillian G aged 13 years - Dora aged 11 years - Julia J aged 9 years - Charlie aged 4 years and that he desires under the constition of Georgia & the Statutes in reference thereto to have laid off & set apart as a homestead for the use of said family on five hundred acres of land the property of petitioner situated in said county & bounded on the North by lands of C.W. Van Valkingburgh on the South by James C. Hancock & Mrs. Lamar on the East by lands of V.5. Holton, Sam Causey & Estate of N. Cloud on the West by lands of Isaih Grant the whole of said lands not exceeding one thousand dollars - Petitioner also desires to have exempted & set apart the personalty embraced in schedule “A” hereto attached to which reference is made as a part of this petition, said schedule contains a minute & accurate description of all the personal property belonging to your petitioner. Schedule “B” hereto attached contains a correct list of the names & post offices of the creditors of petitioner - Your petitioner prays that an order may issue to the county Surveyor of said county (if none then to some other Surveyor) requiring him to lay off & make a plat of a homestead, for said family out of said five hundred acres of land & make a return thereof in accordance with law - Your petitioner ask that the usual notice in such cases may issue & be published as required by law & that all of said property be set apart & exempted from levy & sale as a homestead for the use & benefit of his said family as by the law provided & petitioner will ever pray so.
