Mrs. Terrell Hancock died at her home in the Third district of this county Wednesday morning after being sick for several weeks with pneumonia. Mr. Wash Becham, an aged and esteemed member of one of the pioneer families of this section, died at the home of his son, Mr. Jack Becham, east of Knoxville, Sunday. The house owned and occupied by Miss Eva Lou Holt, at Knoxville, was destroyed by fire Thursday morning between 1 and 2 o’clock. This was one of the oldest houses in Knoxville and was known as the old Blasingame Hotel. The post office was in one room of the building but practically everything belonging to it was saved. The fire is supposed to have originated from a defective flue in the kitchen. The Butler Herald Tuesday, June 8, 1915 Page Five Clipped From Our Contemporaries Crawford County News Mr. H.K. Sealy, of Reynolds, spent a few hours here last Wednesday. Miss Odell Pierce and Ouida Cosey have returned to their homes in Taylor County. Carr’s Mill is the center of attraction these days, there’s never a day but some crowd is there picnicking or camping from Roberta, Fort Valley and other towns; and it is a fine place to picnic. The machine recently purchased by the county commissioners for use on the roads of Crawford County has arrived and is now engaged in working the road between Roberta and the Bibb County line. This is the same type of machinery being used on the other roads of the state with a high degree of satisfaction and Warden Vaughn expect to increase the efficiency of the gang both in speed and quality of work being done. The machinery weighs about 8,000 pounds and is capable of pulling six scrapes at a speed of four miles an hour on 10 gallons of gasoline per day. The Butler Herald Thursday, September 9, 1915 Page Seven Neighboring County News Crawford County From Crawford County News Rev. R.O. Martin has resigned the pastorate of the Roberta Missionary Baptist Church and will remove his family to South Georgia where he has large farming interests. Rev. Knowles has been tendered the pastorate of the church for another year to succeed Rev. Mr. Martin. Col. W.J. Wallace moved his family to Macon this week. He and Col. R.C. LeSueur have been practicing law there since April. At first they thought only of dividing their time between Macon and Knoxville, but owing to the large law practice they have acquired in Macon, he decided to move his family and devote his time wholly to his law practice in Macon. Roberta High School opened Monday with a large attendance. The school starts under brilliant auspices and bids fair to have a most successful term. Roberta offers the best school facilities of any small town around. With a large and commodious school building, practically new, and with reasonable rates for board and an able corps of teachers, the people of surrounding towns would do well to take advantage of this and send their children to Roberta to school. The curriculum is higher than most village schools and the climate and health conditions are unsurpassed. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 3.8 Kb
