February 1890, Vol. 12, No. 2. John C. Carter died at his residence in Crenshaw county, Ala., on the 23rd of November, 1889, after a lingering illness of four months duration. Brother Carter was born in Crawford county, Ga., April 9, 1824. He was the son of Samuel and Catherine Carter. At what date he came from Georgia I am not informed, but he was for many years a resident of Tallapoosa county, Ala., where he joined the church and was baptized by Elder H. Banon, at Darien in said county. He was ordained to the deacon's office in 1867, which office he filled with great faithfulness to the end. He was truly a goodijnan, faithful, true and trustworthy. He was twice married; his first wife's maiden name was Norman, (married Ann Elizabeth Norman, October 26, 1843, Upson Co., Ga., by Elder John Barker, OMG) that of the second, Bozeman, who still survives the tomb. At the time of his death he was a member of the church at New Providence, Crenshaw county, Ala., but was buried at Darien, same county. He leaves a lonely widow, one son and four daughters and a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn their loss. But we are consoled with the thought that he is forever at rest. We should endeavor to profit by his worthy example, aaad bow with submission to the will of God. H.
