Died, on the 14th ult., at the residence of his son, John W. Ellis, in Crawford County, Ga., Maj. Richard W. Ellis, after a protracted illness, in the 70th year of his age. He had been for many years a useful member and Deacon of the Baptist Church. His pious christian example was known and appreciated by a large circle of brethren and friends. His extreme age prevented him a portion of the time from that active usefulness, in which it is the privilege of younger christians to engage, yet the loss of his influence in his own church and neighborhood will doubtless be much regretted. He was a man of more than ordinary native benevolence of character, and was respected by all who knew him. If it may be said of any man, it may be said of him, that he had no enemies. A few days before he died, he expressed a perfect resignation to the will of his Heavenly Master. His orderly christian life is the strongest evidence that he now enjoys eternal Life.
