W. H. King quietly passed away in Sulphur Springs at the home of J. B. Bailey where he had made his home for several years. Several relatives from Corsicana were present at his death. For many weeks he had been in declining health. Gen King was one of the pioneers of this city, and had lived here for many years. He was born in Georgia in 1839, of Scotch-Irish ancestry. He was a true and faithful soldier and enlisted in the Confederate Army under Col. D. B. Culberson. Since the war he served his state as a Ranger for a number of years. He served Sulphur Springs as mayor and was also a representative of Hopkins County in the state legislature, and served for eight (sic) years as adjutant general, under the administration of Sul Ross and Gov. Ireland. His remains were shipped to Corsicana Wednesday evening for interment. Capt. John R. Ferguson, one of his old soldiers, and J. C. Gee accompanied the remains to Corsicana where interment took place under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. He had one brother, Donald King, of Corsicana, Texas, and a sister- in-law, Mrs. Nora Bruner, of Corsicana, Texas, and a number of nephews and nieces. He had made this city his home for 36 years and was actively engaged in lecturing in Masonic Schools up to a short time ago Matt Ashcroft Camp, U.C.V. - In memory of Gen. H. W. King - Comrade King was born in Crawford County, Georgia, in 1839, and enlisted in the Confederate Army from Missouri in 1861. Coming to Texas, he again enlisted in 1862 in Col.
