Crawford County


I Elizabeth Sloan of said county and state,being of
sound [disposing?] mind and memory, although of
advancing age, do make and ordain the following as my
last will and testament.


Item 1 Having but a small portion of worldly effects,
and being desirous to compensate as far as in me lies
Elizabeth Buzbee, a small orphan child that I raised
and that is now living with me, and who is kind and has
been obedient to me, both in health and in sickness. I
give and bequeath to her, the said Elizabeth Buzbee,
four head of cattle as well as all the household
furniture. [ Descriptive sentence I can't decipher]


Item2 I nominate and approach Thomas Kennedy [the name
was written into this document by different hand]
executor of this my last will and testament and that he
act as [testamentary?] guardian of the said Elizabeth
Buzbee until such time as she will be capable of
managing the same for herself.


In witness of which I hereto set my hand and seal this
13th day of September 1865. [the date added in a
different hand]

I also found additional court papers showing:

(1) Witnesses swearing to the authenticity of the will
dated September 1865 (G. P. Anderhouse?, J. H. Irby, N.
Andrews (2) the will accepted by the Crawford Co Court,
James R Ray, Ordinary dated October 1868 (3) Thomas
Kennedy assigned the administrator of Elizabeth's
estate, again by James R Ray, Ordinary dated 1868


I assume Elizabeth died in 1865, so I don't know why it
took 2-3 years for her estate to be admitted to
probate. Maybe the war......


Elizabeth was my ggg grandmother.
