                LOWER GRADES FINISH WITH PROGRAM WEDNESDAY
                              28 MAY 1936
Junior High and Grade Schools Closed Wednesday--Honors Announced at Junior High 
                       By Professor D. H. Standard
     The grade schools of the city public schools came to a close this morning
when promotion cards were distributed to all children who passed the grades.
     At simple exercises at the Stadium this morning at 9:30 certificates were
delivered to about 75 boys and girls. These certificates were given to all who
had completed work for the eighth grade and entitles the holder to promotion to
the ninth grade in the high school. 
     The following honors and medals were awarded:
     First honor graduate: Nelle Ellis; Second honor graduate: John Lee Espy; D.
A. R. citizenship medals, Billy King and Carolyn Taylor. Highest averagein
Junior High School: Nelle Ellis; Perfect attendance record: [Neither absent or
tardy]. Herbert Wehlitz; Joe Wilson; John Lee Cox; Minnie Redd; Vivian Wilson;
Oscar Wilcox; Jake Culler; Howard Dorough; Marvin Dorough; Gladine Culpepper;
Virginia Culpepper.
     Honor Roll: [Yearly average of 90% or above] 8th GRADE; Nelle Ellis; John
Lee Espy; Carolyn Taylor; Charlie Greene; Alton Hamilton; Eloise Ellis: 7th
GRADE; Vivian Wilson; Jack Pate; Bernod Tepper; June Adams; Edith Murray; Scott
Vinson.
