L. Strickland Made Chairman and Mr. G. C. Lewis--Vice-Chairman--Mr. John R. Brown Has Served Most Acceptably as City Manager for Five Years. At the recent annual meeting of the Cordele City Commissioners, Mr. J. L. Strickland was elected Chairman and Mr. G. C. Lewis, vice-chairman, Mr. J. C. Dorough, who is also clerk, was retained as clerk of the commissioners. Strozier & Gower were re-elected city attorneys and Dr. L. O. Wooten, city physician. Mr. O. E. Scott, was re-elected Recorder. Mr. A. J. Smith was re-elected on the school board for a term of five years. R. E. Harris, Mrs. J. M. Diffee and Mrs. W. P. Fleming were elected as the library board. Mr. A. E. Walto, Mr. W. E. Pridgen and Mr. J. Slade constitute the remainder of the City Commissioners. All are gentlemen of the highest order who have the very best interests of Cordele and section very much at heart and we feel that our city is safe in their capable hands. Mr. John R. Brown has been City Manager of Cordele since 1930 and we KNOW that NO city has a better , more efficient manager. He is on the job at all times and the very soul of courtesy. He is a splendid character and a great asset to us ass a citizen as well as an efficient officer. Those connected with the city government and coming under the direction of Mr. Brown, are as below: Mr. J. C. Dorough, clerk and treasurer, Miss Gladys Thompson assistant clerk. Police Department--Mr. John R. Meeks, Chief of Police. Messrs. J. C.Griffith, H. D. Grimsley, Lester Brown and Henry Cox patrolmen. Fire Department--R. C. Thompson, chief. Messrs. G. L. Willis, Reese Noble, George Bussey and E. J. Shipp, firemen. City Engineer and Water Works Superintendent, Mr. Robert Davis. Messrs. Sam Cox and John McElroy, engineers. Mr. Charles Adams, assistant to Mr. Davis. Mr. Clyde Ray, street and sanitary superintendent. Messrs. Jim Fitzgerald, J. G. Lampkin and George Hudson, assistants. Mr. J. D. Christmas, superintendent of mosquito control. So,it seen what a large number of people it requires to keep things moving in our municipal affairs, but under expert guidance of Mr. Brown, everything works with clock-like precision and we are indeed fortunate with him at the helm.
