H. T. Walker, whose monument is to be unveiled near Atlanta in a short time, was the only Georgia general who was killed in the civil war, a correspondent of the Augusta Chronicle exposes the error. Mr. F. M. Stovall, a prominent member of the Veteran;s camp in Augusta and a survivor of the civil war, shows that this mistake is not only a historical lapse, but does the State of Georgia an injustice. If this statement coming from such a source is allowed to pass uncorrected, says Mr. Stovall, the uninformed might infer that these higher officers who obeyed Georgia's call to defend her soil and that of her sister states, were content to do their fighting at a long range. This is far from the tructh. Besides the large percentage of our states General Officers who recieved wounds in the armies of the Confederacy, no less than nine of them died on the field of battle,as the following will show.
