Robert L. Dekle Was Laid To Rest Friday Afternoon. Robert L. Dekle, 78, for more than fifty years a Citizen, Businessman, and Civic Leader in Cordele were held Friday afternoon at four o'clock fom the First Baptist Church of which he was a member. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. E. Fite, and Rev. J. B. Smith, of the First Methodist Church. Two songs, "Abide With Me" and "Asleep In Jesus" were sung by Mrs. Ed. Jones and Curtis Jackson, with Mrs. Essie B. Cobb accompanying at the organ. Pallbearers were Geo Franklin, Jr. Lchman Franklin, Roger Dekle, Kermit Dekle, Robert D. Williams, Robert L. Standard, Elder T. J. McArthur, Lon Burton, M. R. Miller, T. V. Hyman and J. T. Westbrook. Mr. Dekle's death occurred in Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, following a major operation. He had been in failing health for sometime. A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Dekle had been a resident of Cordele for more than fifty years and a pioneer in business. He was one of the leaders in the movement to create Crisp County, which was formed from a potion of old Dooly County. He was head of the Dekle Funeral Home here for many years. Mr. Dekle is survived by his wife, the former Miss Daisy Cobb; five daughters, Mrs. Dan Chappell, and Mrs. Carl Bass, of Miami; Mrs. Garriett Fitzgibbons of College Park, Mrs. Britt G. Williams of Cordele, and Mrs Fred Derrick, Jr. of Clayton, and an adopted daughter Alice, also a brother J. Dekle of Swainsboro and one sister, Mrs. Ivy Fordham of Macon.
