LAMB, POPULAR PIONEER CITIZEN DIES AT HOME Passing causes sorrow all over this section-Funeral tomorrow afternoon J. H. Lamb, popular former Cordele businessman, died at the family residence this afternoon after an illness of six weeks caused from complications. His passing causes sorrow all over this section. Mr. Lamb was 62 years of age. For twenty or thirty years, he operated a wholesale grocery business in Cordele. His fair dealings with his fellowman won for him friends all over this section and other parts of Georgia. This friendship continued to grow and when he retired from the wholesale business there were numerous regrets. But many of these friends continued to enjoy meeting and conversing with Mr. Lamb when he went into other lines of activity. Mr. Lamb was a member of the old Cordele city council for one or two terms. His record is still well known among the older citizens of the city. About three years ago, Mr. Lamb was named state food inspector under Commissioner of Agriculture Columbus Roberts. This position took him to a dozen or more South Georgia counties every month. His efficient way of handling problems brought to his attention often elicited favorable comment from citizens in public life and from Mr. Roberts and his assistants. Surviving are his wife; two children, a son, Joe Hill Lamb, Cordele and one daughter, Audrey Fay Lmb, Cordele; and his mother, who also resides in Cordele. Funeral services will be held tomorow afternoon at three o'clock from the residence and interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Additional Comments: John was born 6 Aug 1874 to Ira J. Lamb and Mary Waters Lamb. His wife was Edna Elizabeth Hill Lamb who is also buried at Sunnyside Cemetery. Georgia death certificate #742.
