J. P. Wardlaw, passed quietly in death Sunday morning at one o’clock following an attack early Saturday morning which left her unconsicous and from she never rallied. Up to the hour of her serious illness, she had been about her household duties and had even made visit downtown, but she had not been in best of health. Her serious illness, however, came without warning and she lasted a brief period of time. The funeral was held this Monday afternoon at four o’clock at the home of Judge and Mrs. O. T. Gower. The service were in charge of Rev. O.B. Chester of Dublin and Rev. K. Reid of Augusta, both being former pastors of the First Methodist church here. Mrs. Edgar Fletcher and Mrs. Ed Jones sung two selections “Abide With Me” and “Rock of Ages.” Mrs. George Ballenger accompanying at the piano. There were many beautiful flowers from all over the community, silent tokens of love and esteem. The remains were laid to rest in Sunnyside Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrss. J.W. Cannon, J.J. Williams, W. H. Westbrook, E. F. Tison, Thomas Nesbitt and J. D. Cobb. Mrs. Wardlaw was Miss Fannie Wynne, native of Eastman, and was 67 years of age. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church and during her most useful years as a resident of Cordele her devotion and loyalty to the cause of the First Methodist church meant much to its advancement and success. She also devoted much time to civic activities and the advancement of all good causes in the community. She was lovely home maker and maintained a marked loyalty to friends ever where. In early life she was married to the late B. B. Pound. Here they spent their active life together in outstanding devotion to the best interest of the community.
