A. Turk Dies A. A. Turk, aged 91 years, died at the home of a son, C. B. Turk, at Pitts. He was Crisp county's last Confederate veteran. He called Cordele his home, but lived much of the time with his son at Pitts. Mr. Turk was a member of Camp of Confederate Veterans No. 1614 of Crisp county. He joined the Confederate Army at the age of 16 and was assigned to the 5th Georgia Reserves and saw service in and around Savannah when Sherman marched to the sea and captured Savannah. Mr. Turk was a member of the Baptist church. Survived by two sons, C. B. Turk of Pitts, and T. N. Turk of Cordele; one daughter, Mrs. S. B. Archer of Jefferson, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren also survive and many other relatives. Funeral services were held at Pitts Baptist church, conducted by Rev. J. G. Morris, assisted by Rev. W. L. Roebuck. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery at Cordele. Dorsey Funeral Home of Abbeville in charge. Additional Comments: Alexander Ash Turk was born on 18 August 1847 in Homer, Franklin Co. (now Banks), GA, the son of William Harvey Turk and Isabella Semira (Ash) Turk. He married Mrs. Amanda Selina (Ballew) Kilgore on 2 April 1871 in Banks Co.
