Johnson Weathers (1825-1898)

Johnson Weathers was born in Tennessee in 1825.  His parents were both born in
North Carolina.  He married Elizabeth ______ in 1848, probably in Georgia. 
Johnson was a farmer, and he and Elizabeth lived south of Trenton in Dade
County, Georgia for several decades.  Their three sons and five daughters were
all born there.  Their children’s names and birth years were John (1848), Sarah
(1850), Minerva (1852), Benjamin (1854), Martha (1859), Elizabeth (1860), Amy
(1863), and William (1865).

Sometime after 1870, the family moved to La Crosse in Izard County, Arkansas. 
Elizabeth died on August 18, 1880, and Johnson died on May 6, 1898.  These facts
are all based on Federal census information.

Aside from census data, almost nothing else is known of Johnson --  his parents’
names and origins, any siblings, or Elizabeth’s maiden name.  There are various
spellings of the family name – Weathers, Wethers, and Withers in successive
census records.  Since Tennessee territory was part of North Carolina until
1796, it is also possible that there is some confusion regarding his parents’
birthplaces.
