Funeral services for Hazel Wilson Battles, 90, of Bainbridge, will be held 
today at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge with the Revs. Dr. 
Danny Shepard and Earl Barron officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak City Cemetery with Luke Spooner III, Wesley 
Phinney III, Joe Frank Battles, Corbett Phinney, Brian Harrell and Brandan 
Harrell serving as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Georgia Baptist Children’s Home, 2930 Flowers Road, 
Atlanta, GA 30341.

Mrs. Battles died May 25, 2005, at her residence in Bainbridge. She was born in 
Ellenton, Fla., and graduated from Attapulgus High School in 1931, and attended 
Huntingdon College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Mayflower 
Society and a past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also 
was the author of The Wilsons of Cherryfield, Maine. She was preceded in death 
by her husband, George Franklin Battles Jr.

Survivors include a son, George Franklin Battles III of Bainbridge; three 
daughters, Catherine Ann Battles Nelson of Bainbridge, Susan Deborah Battles 
Phinney of Canton, Ga., and Margaret Wilson Battles Harrell of Donalsonville; 
12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hazel was the daughter of William Emery and Catherine Naomi Grafton Wilson.  
Her father was from Maine (the son of Sen. Emerson Kittredge Wilson), and her 
mother from Maryland.
