Ray Bell, Jr., The Cairo Messenger, November 28, 2001: Mr. E. Ray Bell Jr., 62, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at the V.A. Medical Center in Gainesville, FL. Mr. Bell was born July 5, 1939, in Bainbridge, to the late Ernest R. Bell and Willie Mae Wooten Bell. He was a lifetime resident of Decatur County, Ga. Mr. Bell was a pharmacist, retired after 15 years as Director of Pharmacy for Memorial Hospital in April, 2001, worked 15 years as Assistant Director of Pharmacy for Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Fla. He was a member of the Mars Hill Christian Church, Whigham, Ga., was a 1958 graduate of Climax High School; a 1963 graduate of the University of Georgia; served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of the Georgia and Florida Pharmaceutical Associations. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church, Bainbridge, with the Revs. Stanley Phillips and Sue Roberts officiating. Interment followed at Mars Hill Christian Church, Whigham. Active pallbearers included Dr. Sydney Cochran, David C. "Butch" Mosely, Gary King, Walt Dickson, Chip McCarty, Scil Rathel and Ennis Brock. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1500 E. Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA, 31717. Survivors include his wife, Linda Nessmith Bell, whom he married Feb. 26, 1972, Bainbridge; two daughters, Malinda B. Dean (Todd), and Mary Beth B. Scott (Chris), all of Bainbridge; mother, Willie Mae Wooten Bell, Climax, Ga; three brothers, Maston W. Bell, Bonaire, Ga.; Luke R. Bell, Climax, and Jerry Bell, Climax; a sister, Donna B. Rackley, Camilla, Ga.; and two grandsons, Chase Dean and Caleb Scott, both of Bainbridge. Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his father, Ernest R. Bell, and two brothers, Conrad Bell and Bennett Bell. Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.
