The entire community was shocked and grieved to hear of the tragic death of Mr. Ellis A. Cartledge, on Monday evening at 7:30 o’clock from paralysis. He was born October 24, 1906. Saturday night he seemed as well as usual, had not complained and was at the home of Miss Ethel Alphord, when suddenly he began acting queer and upon being questioned said that he had a pain in his head and a few minutes later said that he must have an attack of indigestion. Miss Alphord soon saw that he had a stroke of paralysis. He had a convulsion and became speechless. She notified his father and he carried him home. He was desperately ill and late Monday afternoon had another stroke and began sinking rapidly. He never spoke again after the first stroke. He leaves mother, father, one brother and one sister besides other relatives and friends to mourn his passage. Ellis was indeed a lovable young man, was kind and all who knew him loved him. He was devoted to his mother who has been an invalid from paralysis for almost two years. ... [Loc. cit., but a different column.] Card of Thanks: To the many friends who came to us in the sad hours of the illness and death of our dear Ellis and for the floral offerings, we extend our heartfelt thanks. ...
