From his early boyhood, Mr. Martin held a quiet, unassuming and upright position in his community. A devoted and faithful attendant of Suttons's Chapel Methodist Church and a loyal community worker, the influence of this good man will continue a shining light to succeeding generations. Funeral services were held in the family church at Sutton's Chapel on Tuesday afternoon. Words of comfort were spoken by Rev. Thomason of Bainbridge and beautiful and impressive songs were sung by Misses Rhoden, Singletary, Hill, Mrs. Reynolds, and Mr. Mobley. Internment took place in the Bainbridge cemetery. A devoted wife and several children and grandchildren survive. Known for his history, virtue and courage this good man leaves an example of honor and principle to whomever may follow in his footsteps. A father, a neighbor and a friend to the community, Mr. Martin will certainly be missed. But as a pilgrim of the cross he walks into the pearly gates and receives his reward. Mr. Martin never tried to soar above the level of his countrymen; he never allowed himself to be a victim below the standards of good principle. He was on the level - a courageous thinker, and a consecrated worker. Good deeds, valor and common sense are recognized in the living influence of this grand old man. These are the things that build a community; the things worthy of the attention of mortal man. These are the contributions of a useful citizen; the worthy assets of a socialized community; the fruits of a righteous people. Our sympathy goes out to the family in their bereavement. But kinds friends, your loss is his gain. May you comfort yourselves with the happy hope of again seeing him on that celestial shore.
