Rich Dies Following Lengthy Illness Funeral Service Held Wednesday Afternoon At First Baptist Church Mrs. Augustus J. Rich prominent and widely beloved Bainbridge woman, died at her home on Clay Street Tuesday morning, January 15, 1946. News of her passing caused widespread sorrow among friends throughout this county and section. Mrs. Rich had been in bad health for the past several months but became critically ill about three weeks ago. Her loved ones and friends realized the her slender strength was gradually ebbing and the end was not unexpected when it quietly came. Mrs. Rich was the former Miss Willie Bess Glover. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and took an active part in church work and civic activities. She is survived by her husband Augustus J. Rich, four children, Earl J. Rich, Bessie Carolyn Rich, Martha Susan Rich and Augustus J. Rich Jr., all of this city; six sisters, Miss Freddie and Miss Leana Glover, Mrs. O.D. Williams, Mrs. J.R. Brockett and Mrs. Berie Hughes, of this city and Mrs. P.H. Harrell of Camilla, Georgia, one brother, J.C. Glover of Albany, Georgia. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, January 16, at 3:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend H.H. Shell and the Reverend J.E. Ward officiating. Interment was made in the Oak City Cemetery. The following gentlemen served as active pallbearers: E. B. Harrison, Lee A. Parker, Clayton Walker, R.E. Rowan, James D. Floyd and J.M. McCollum. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Philathea Class of the Baptist Church acted as an honorary escort. E.W. Cox Funeral Home in charge.
