Sykes Sept 8, 1912 - June 28, 1993 Mr. William E. "Bill" Sykes, 80, of Bainbridge died on June 28, 1993 at Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Services will be held Thursday, July 1 at 3 p.m. at Morningside Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Hart officiating. Burial will follow at West Bainbridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Davis Sykes, Jr., Don Kell, James Matthews, H. L. Green, Ira Phillips and Wendell Nix. Honorary pallbearers are all male members of the Morningside Baptist Church. Visitation will be tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home. Mr. Sykes was born on Sept. 8, 1912 in Gadsden County, Fla. He had lived most of his life in Decatur County. He was retired from the Georgia Factory for the Blind in 1973 as a mattress shop supervisor. He was owner and operator of Sykes Bait Co. of Bainbridge since 1973. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lorene Bennett Sykes of Bainbridge; two daughters, Mary F. Meredith, Brenda Phillips, both of Bainbridge; three sons, Steve Sykes, William Davis Sykes, Sr., Eddie Sykes, all of Bainbridge; two sisters, Merlene G. Brock of Cairo, Inell Sapp of Jacksonville, Fla; three brothers, Gene Gleaton of Bainbridge, Earliss Gleaton of Roswell, N.M. and L. H. (Hiwatha) Gleaton of Bainbridge; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Cox Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 246-4411.
