Wheat, prominent Bainbridge resident and wife of the late Dr. Wheat, died in Memorial Hospital Tuesday, December 5, following a short illness. Funeral services for the deceased were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the First Baptist Church where she maintained her membership, with the church pastor, Dr. James T. Burrell, officiating. Daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Jefferson Davis Chason, she was a lifetime resident of this city. Her father was founder of the Riverside Hospital in Bainbridge. Both her husband and father were outstanding, prominent physicians as well as her uncle, Dr. Gordon Chason, who survives her. Mrs. Wheat is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W. A. Wardell of Charlotte, N. C., Mrs. Carl Fryer, Jr. of Quincy, Fla. and Mrs. John Turner McCall of Rome; fourteen grandchildren and a great grandson. Others surviving include: four sisters, Mrs. H. G. Bell and Mrs. W. L. Wilkinson of Bainbridge, Mrs. Victor P. Wright of Vidalia and Mrs. W. P. Jackson of Tampa, Fla. She was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class and Woman's Missionary Union. She received her college education at Cox College in College Park, Ga. and Randolph Macon in Lynchburg, Va. At the time of her death she was 75 years old. Those serving as active pallbearers were: Dr. Edwin Griffin, Dr. Henry Bridges, Frank Battles, Jr., Bernard Nussbaum, Bobby T. Willis, Gerard Kwilecki, Jimmy Cliett and James Penny. The ordained Deacons of the First Baptist Church, the trustees of the Bainbridge Schools, Decatur County Medical Association and Decatur County Health Board, the directors of the First State National Bank, Wallace Plowden, R. M. Reynolds, Sr. and Dr. T. F. O'Donnell served as an honorary escort. Following the services interment was made in Oak City Cemetery with Cox Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
