He early settled in Chester County, South Carolina, and served as a Captain on the Snowcampaign, and against the Cherokees in 1776. He was under Sumter in his operations in the summer of 1780, particularly distinguishing himself at Fishing Creek. His company formed a part of Lacey's regiment at King's Mountain; he afterwards served with Sumter, and also at the Cowpens, attaining the rank of Colonel before the close of the war. He died in Dekalb County, Georgia in 1829, aged about 87 years.
