GA (intersection of Columbia Drive and Memorial Drive in Decatur) Plaque: "Family Cemetry of Benjamin C. Crowley and a number of his descendants heirs included the Hudgins and Webb Family. Their home was located 100 yards southeast of this area. They settled here in the year of 1802. This area was a land grant from the Kind of England. This project was accomplished under the planning, cooperation and supervision of John H. Crowley." When the Avondale Mall Shopping center (Columbia Drive and Memorial Drive) was built, the Crowley burial ground was preserved by the builder by a mausoleum. Steps lead to the top of the structure where the actual graves are located. WCAyers1@aol.com Friday August 29, 2003 mrswjh1@yahoo.com (Rilla Hartsoe) Crowley Cemetery, Avondale Mall When I was in DeKalb County doing research there was a Security Guard that let you in this Cemetery and he had access to information packet with all of this info..If I remember right, Benjamin Crowley is buried there. There are eleven graves housed within a stone wall mausoleum that standson the fringe of the mail's parking area. There are seven adults and four children marked by box tombs uninscribed. These include the graves of: James Crowley, Sr., Dorcas Smith Crowley James Crowley, Jr.. Information about uninscribed graves furnished by a daughter of Benjamin Crowley and granddaughter of James Crowley, Sr.. Other names are as follows: Delaney Cross-Wife of Zachariah D. Cross-died April 17, 1892. Age 82 years.--- Zachariah D. Cross-Aug 15, 1815-Nov. 18, 1891. Benjamin Crowley- Aug. 03, 1812-Jan. 03, 1869. James Crowley, no inscribed marker. Died 1828. Came to DeKalb County from Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Dorcas Smith Crowley, no inscribed marker. Died about 1851 or 1852. Wife of James Crowley, Sr.. James Crowley, Jr., no inscribed marker. Died when a young man. Mary J. Crowley, July 12, 1823- Sept.14,1863. Wife of Benjamin Crowley. John Hawkins, no inscribed marker. Father of John M. Hawkins. This was recorded Dec. 11, 1931. Mary J. Crowley was a Tuggle. She was a sister to Margerat R. Tuggle who married a Daniel J. Ayers in 1854. Daniel was my great-great grandfather. I hope this helps you. Wayland C. Ayers- Texas.
